I was sitting with Meghan and her friend Michael just catching up while I was in town, when a guy from the next table got up, came right up to me, grabbed my shoulder and said - "Stacy?"
Me: "No." Uncomfortable smiling due to a feeling of being ambushed.
Guy: "Oh. You look just like Stacy."
Me: "I'm not Stacy" more smiling and waiting for him to take a hike.
Guy: "Are you from Minnesota? Cause you look just like my friend Stacy, or like you are with the group from Minnesota."
Me: "No."
Guy: "OK, sorry about that. It's crazy, you look just like Stacy" trailing off as he went back to his seat.
This one would have been PERFECT for my new cards!

Straight From Japan!
New York - November 15, 2006
While getting my hair permanently straightened with the Japanese Thermal procedure, my stylist, who is from Japan proper and has limited English vocabulary, managed to tell me that I look like Kirsten Dunst! What's funny, is that I was asking her what she was doing with my hair when she would take strands and fold them in two - that she could not explain in English, yet it's her specialty. But I looked like someone and there was no problem in explaining that one :)
I also recommend the place - called Hayato on 23rd and Park. They did an excellent job!

Maggie? Tis You?
New York - Mid October
I was at the CVS that is in our building one night paying for something when a man's voice behind the counter (not the one helping me) was talking but I wasn't aware it was to me. I love those moments, when I am so absorbed by an activity (like taking out my debit card) that I can't even hear people talking to me. Ha! Anyway, he kept saying - Miss? Miss? When I finally looked up, he told me (again, apparently) that I look like Maggie Gyllenhaal. Wow - that's a GOOD ONE! I was truly flattered!

You, but blonde!

Looks like things are picking up in the sightings department. I've only been back in New York for 3 days when yesterday a cocktail waitress at Katwalk (on 35th St.) couldn't focus on my order because I looked just like her friend. "Do you have a twin? Or a sister? I swear my friend looks exactly like you, but she's blonde. What did you order?" My friend Kelly was with me; she was witness.
That's right!! My recognizability spreads across the country. It is so weird! But I have to say, before I would get totally irritated in these situations, but now it's more tolerable being able to post here.

Friday, at the Salon
New York - May 19, 2006
I was at Elite Day Spa last Friday on 38th street after work, getting done one of the hundreds of things a woman has to do to be presentable, when I noticed that a lady who was paying for her service was staring at me. I just smiled, it wasn't particulary odd as people often stare at me, usually when I'm walking, and most likely because I'm tall (but I was sitting at the time, and still I didn't feel it to be strange?!?!) Anyway, I went back to my magazine. Then about 2 minutes later, when I looked up, she was still staring. So I held her gaze, always up for a staring contest, and she finally spoke the magic words:
Lady: "You look so familiar, where do I know you from"
Me: "I don't know"
Lady: "Where do you work?"
Me: "I work at 40th & Broadway"
Lady: "No, I don't know anyone there"
Ahhh...we came to a bump in the road, she definitely does not know me. She made a nice comment about the company I work for and I thought that was that...but no...
Lady: "What about before? Did you work on Wall Street?"
Me: "I'm from California, so I was working in LA before this"
She was exasperated that she couldn't place me. She wanted to recall so badly where it was that she knew me from. Oh well, just another unsatisfied stranger that I don't know.
